Every month I’ve decided to compile a list of my favorite things from that particular month. Anything from TV shows to new snacks I’ve tried are fair game. These are not sponsored posts, just some cool stuff that I’ve found that I like and have been using during the month of August.
1. TOMS Brogues
The first item on my faves list is a pair of Chocolate TOMS Brogues. Just to be clear these are men’s shoes, but who gives a hoot (except maybe an owl). They’re super comfy because they are TOMS brand and perfect to wear to work. They have taken some time for me to break in, but I’m on my feet for 8 hours during the day and finding comfortable shoes that look good and fit my style is nearly impossible. These are perfect. They’re soft sole oxford style shoes and unfortunately these are gone from the TOMS website (I bought them on sale). But they do still have them in stock in some other colors.
2. The Gnarly Whale Beach Wave Spray (for hair)
GUYS. I am in love with this spray. It is made of all natural ingredients (mostly coconut oil and salt LOL) and it smells amazing. It is the only product I have put in my hair for the past month and I usually don’t put any product in my hair. I bought it at Urban Outfitters just because I stumbled upon it and I was curious if it would work. My hair is short (I’m growing it out a little bit to achieve a different hairstyle), but as it has grown a bit, it has become flatter. My hair is naturally wavy, but not beach wavy. This spray actually gives my hair the beachy wave volume I was looking for. You spray it on right out of the shower and scrunch your hair a bit, and once it dries it looks as if you’ve been tanning like the golden goddess that you are on the beach all day. There are a few different scents (I got coconut milk and peaches), and it is available at Urban Outfitters and on The Gnarly Whale’s website.
3. Urban Outfitters Forget-Me-Not Petal Perfume Oil
For those of you that know me IRL, you know that this mama likes to smell GOOD. I don’t usually wear anything fancy (I’ve used Victoria’s Secret PINK fresh and clean body spray for years), but I ran across this while at Urban Outfitters and decided to give it a try. It is basically essential oils with different scents and flower petals diffused within it. There are several different scents, this one smells very floral. That usually isn’t my style, but it smells damn good kids. I’ve been using this exclusively for weeks now and a little goes a long way. It is mess free (it has a roll on applicator) and I usually just roll some on my wrists and rub them together and I’ll put a dab below my ears on my neck. I can still smell it at the end of the day. It is a little expensive (it was like $18 for this small container), but I like to treat myself every now and again! You should too!
4. Stranger Things
I am downright obsessed with this 80’s style sci-fi Netflix series! It is seriously amazing, even if you aren’t a fan of science fiction movies/shows etc. The writing, the acting, the set design, the nostalgia! You will fall in love with the kids on this show. Eight episodes was not enough for me. Luckily they have officially confirmed a second season and hopefully it’ll be just as amazing. The series is about a small town in Indiana and the supernatural events that occur there surrounding government conspiracy. There are a few subplots, but I don’t want too give much away. If you haven’t watched it, give the pilot episode a try and I promise you will be hooked. I watched all 8 episodes (each 45 min-1 hour long) in 3 days before work started back up. Even if you don’t think you’ll be into it, give it a try!
5. NPR Tiny Desk Concerts
NPR (National Public Radio) has an online concert series called “Tiny Desk Concerts” and that is exactly what it is. Different bands/artists playing a short concert (usually 4 or 5 songs) behind a tiny desk in an NPR office. A lot of the artists/bands are up and coming or brand new to the music scene, and I have literally never watched one that I didn’t immediately add all the music to my latest Spotify playlist. NPR really has a knack for getting bands/artists to take part in this quirky, cool web series. It is a great way to quickly showcase their music. I have been watching this web series for a while, but in this month alone I have discovered 8-10 new artists that I can’t stop listening to. If you’re a music hound like me and love discovering new tunes, check it outtttt. You can find it on Youtube or on the NPR website.
Sup3rfruit is a Youtube duo made up of Mitch Grassi and Scott Hoying from the acapella band Pentatonix. Both Mitch and Scott are amazing singers and best friends. They both are heavily involved in the LGBTQ+ community and they make hilarious videos. I discovered them a while ago, but didn’t start watching their videos until recently. I love that at the end of every video they tell the viewers their favorite song they’ve been listening to that week (great for checking out new tunes!) Check out their channel here, Sup3rfruit.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this post and you check some of this stuff out! I will try to vary the types of things I choose as my favorites. Some Youtubers do monthly favorites videos and they just do products or make up, and it is a total snoozefest for me because I don’t really like those things. So I’ll try to shake it up for you along the way. Ciao, bella!
