Well the Doritos Locos Taco that is running the country has fucked us over even more. Who would of thought he could do this much damage in this little time? Oh yeah. We all did. WE ALL DID.

Sexual assault is now a pre-existing condition. Trans people and gender non conforming people are going to be forced to pay out of pocket for their medications. Planned Parenthood is going to be defunded. People are going to be forced to go without health insurance and as a result people will die. The administration has blood on their hands and they don’t care.

I feel like each day is a new whirlwind of emotions. And by whirlwind I mean tropical storm on top of a tsunami on top of a tornado. All at once I feel sad and angry and hopeless and exhausted and frustrated. And sometimes I feel hopeful, but those moments are fleeting even now.

So how do we deal with this shit storm that is constantly beating down our doors? How do we not become The Handmaid’s Tale? How do we get up every morning and have the energy to go outside and fight this shit? Well I don’t have all the answers. I am not some sentient being that understands something that only few do. I am a normal human being. One that enjoys feeling safe. And one that does not feel safe right now.

This is our reality. How do we overcome it?

We riot. We resist. We do everything we can to fight this. But what about the times when we are exhausted and nothing seems to be working. We hold each other. We cry together. We vent. We use our breaking hearts to make art. We pour our souls out into the streets and we remember. We remember what is at stake.

And when we can’t do any of that because we’re terrified, we sit on the couch and eat burritos. At the end of the day, all we have are burritos. Until they take those away from us too.

I know times are scary and it probably isn’t the right time to make jokes, but that is how I am coping on days like today when I can’t find the energy to fight. I can’t find someone to hold or cry with. And I can’t bear to think about what is at stake. Because it is everything. I am coping by making jokes about burritos. Cope in whatever way you can.

If you want a way to help, text Resist to 504-09. This texting service is called Resistbot and it helps you send letters to your state representatives. It asks for your name and zip code. Then it allows you to pen a letter to your representatives and sends it to them. Easy peasy! I highly recommend using this service to contact your reps. It might not seem like a lot, but a little goes a long way. Happy resisting!
